This year has been rather topsy-turvy here at Ginger Mash! The result being, I am now back focusing on Ginger Mash 100%.  Woo-hoo!

 At the start of 2022, I was finally able to get out to Boston, MA to meet my Lucida team. I had been working with them for at least a year and I needed to spend some in-person time with my co-founder to plan the next phase for our start-up. 

 The trip started with a bang – visiting our first retailer, meeting some fabulous potential supporters and partners, and then going to our first industry conference in March, again in Boston. We’d had a difficult journey to that point; with Covid, which affected our ability to raise funds, plus all the usual challenges start-ups face, and I was based thousands of miles away from my team in the UK, working across two time zones. However, the industry and fellow businesses received our idea and concept really well.

 After returning to London, after a very long weekend at the Boston conference of manning our stand, talking repeatedly to potential business partners, attending investor events, and a return flight with a 7 hour delay, it was clear the last 3 years of hard work was about to catch up with us.

Then, our funding was considerably reduced without notice. My co-founder and I started to feel physical burn-out, and we were starting to realise we had a real difference of opinions on the priorities of the business.  As a result, in September I decided to step down from Lucida, so I can focus on my own business and work with other small business owners, which is my passion.

Here’s to a Happy Christmas and a fabulous 2023 for us all!

Why am I telling you this story? Well, I wanted to share the facts that sometimes things don’t work out the way you thought they would. Also, not everything you start is always successful. All this has been really hard for me to accept – and to realise and to let go – but as I say, sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

My health was impacted by the effort and stress of this year. Now, with my health recovering, my energy is restored, as is my passion for my Ginger Mash consultancy. My focus for 2023 will be Ginger Mash, working with small business owners and their teams, and supporting the charities I work with on their governance, best practice and progression.

I really hope you have all had a good year and that you are able to take some time off to be with friends or family this Christmas.
